What to Expect
The church aims to be friendly and approachable, with services easily accessible. You should find people of a range of different ages and backgrounds attend. Welcomers will be on hand to greet you before the beginning of each service.
What time do I need to arrive?
Morning services begin at 11am and evening services at 6.15pm. A short communion service is also held each week, either at either side of the morning service or after the evening one. It’s a good idea to keep an eye on this website, so you know exactly what’s happening when. Details are also included in paper bulletins, which are handed out each week. Parking is available.
How long is the service?
Usually just over an hour, plus communion.
Can I bring my children?
Of course! Part of the morning service is given over to the teaching of youngsters. A Salt Club (Sunday school) is run during the service, and there is a crèche for younger tots, as well. Older kids are made welcome through a youth group which runs in term times after the evening service.
Do I get refreshments?
Teas and coffees are served every week along with juice and biscuits – but we hope you will come away spiritually refreshed, too.
Do I need to bring any money?
We have two collection points in the church which are used to gather monetary offerings. These go towards the ongoing work that the church carries out and our support of mission and Christian compassion. Many regular attendees give monthly donations by direct debit. Please give as freely as you feel able – but don’t feel you have to pay.
How can I become a member?
Lerwick Baptist Church is open to any person publicly professing his or her faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, followed by immersion baptism. A person may be received into membership by baptism or by an officially written transfer of membership from another Christian church.
